Required Annual Testing

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) requires all public water systems to implement a cross-connection control program to protect drinking water from contamination. In The Village at Castle Pines, all homes and businesses are equipped with backflow prevention devices. These devices prevent contaminated water from flowing back into the public water supply system or into the drinking water inside your house. This is especially important in homes that contain fire suppression lines or permanently connected pools and hot tubs, which may contain antifreeze or other chemicals that could contaminate the drinking water supply.

To comply with State regulations, certain backflow prevention devices must be tested and certified each year. This includes devices connected to fire suppression systems and to any permanently plumbed pool or hot tub. Annual testing confirms that these devices are working properly and helps protect your home and the entire water supply system.

What Needs to Be Tested?

Every home is required to test the backflow prevention device connected to its fire suppression system each year. Additionally, if you have a pool or hot tub that is permanently connected to your home’s water supply system, the backflow prevention device serving that system must also be tested annually. Backflow prevention devices connected to irrigation systems are typically not subject to testing requirements.

Certified Testers and Submissions

Property owners are responsible for hiring their own certified tester. The only requirements are that your tester must be registered with BSI Online (the platform used to submit and track test results) and your tester must be certified to test backflow prevention devices on fire suppression systems.
